So i have had the issues with the noise this thing can make to the extent that i was ready to get rid of the bike, which is shame because i have put some cash into it and i truly like the bike. Had it in the dealership several times and i get the same story from both the dealer and Triumph "normal" Normal" normal". I still do not agree but alas i have proper documentation and history at the dealer should anything go wrong. I Have the large QR shield on the bike which makes it so much worse (the sounds) so i decided to buy the midnight manta screen and remove the large shield, take out the custom Bell full face helmet (with speakers inside for tunes of course ) and see how that goes. Well i am really bloody surprised how well that little manta screen works on this bike! I can ride to 120 kph no worries without to much effort and with the mustang seat and backrest as some additional support and the full face its a bloody nice ride. But here is the good part, all i hear is my wonderful hogslayers, thats it, and suddenly the bike runs better then i remember it running (funny how being worried about shite will destroy the experience) without hearing any of the crack i run the bike the way it should be run and she comes alive and i find myself staring at her again..... and thinking..... what can i do next ..... instead of , crap i am going to loose my shirt when i get rid of this.

So if you are dealing with the same kind of thing, maybe give this way a go and see how it works for ya

cheers !

Interesting that you posted this. I just returned from a long three day trip and I currently have the manta screen on my Storm. I love it and it works quite well but on day 3 of the ride it was really windy and I was getting pretty tired by the end of the day. Might have been that I really just wanted to get home after all those miles but I was contemplating getting a larger shield. Most of my riding is 100 miles or under in a day. It's rare that I get a chance to do what I did this weekend with each day being 350+ miles. I was considering getting the Triumph QR screen or maybe the Madstad screen for longer trips. We're planning another one for the Black Hills next summer. I guess ideally it would be nice to have the manta and a large screen. Maybe this is why I never hear all the engine noise that people complain about. Actually other than some of the coolant leaks which were fixed with new clamps and the blown fuse on my fan recently the bike has been great. Certainly ran like a clock this weekend which was comforting. I ride with a full face Arai helmet and I think the manta is a great solution for the bike. Just looking for something more for the real long hauls. Just hate the looks of the big screens on the bike. But I'll trade looks for comfort when you're doing seven hours in the saddle. But I agree with you, I love my Storm.

ya if its really windy the manta is not going to shield you too much but allot more than no screen at all thats for sure, like you i only do one or two long trips a year otherwise most around the city and stuff, so on the long trips i will suck up the noise and throw the large shield on it , i thought about trying one of those spitfire shields, still very small but much more wind deflection and very easy on and off. When i go on long trips though we stop allot! got to have a beer a cigar and enjoy the area so makes it a bit easier.

Had the manta on my storm also and found it kept wind off my chest but also deflected bugs and even a stone once...would have got me somewhere if I didn't have the manta!...they look good too...remember its not how safe but how you look that matters!!..lol. I had short tors and enjoyed the sound going on!
I have the Manta on my R3 also and find it has the same abilities on this bike too!

I have had the flyscreen since week three ( 10/2010) of owning the Bird, longhaul plus backrest, ear plugs, scala, Shark Evo helmet, no shitty engine noises, just great exhaust note and enough surrounding noises to keep me connected

Funny to find this post as I too have been on the fence about the bike lately. I have been considering what's next and I really like the Chieftan, but there's nothing like a test ride to confirm you made a great choice to begin with. I really enjoyed the test ride on the Chieftan and will ride one again along with the Roadmaster at a demo days coming soon. Although it handled beautifully, the difference in power was noticeable to me. It had V&H exhaust, but not the high flow breather and of course, it's over 100 lbs heavier than the storm. After the test ride, I got back on my storm and just felt "wow, this bike is awesome!". I have the Manta windscreen too and have been surprised with how effective it is and I just love it. I also have the Mustang 2 piece seat, K&N air filter and stock pipes for now. Even still, throttle response, acceleration and overall speed felt noticeably better than the Indian which has a bigger engine and more torque. It also helps that the fall air is cooler, as I always enjoy how the bike runs in the cooler weather. I put 300 - 350 miles each weekend day and I typically ride the bike hard when riding with friends. I suffer from severe hearing loss and always ride with earplugs, but I still listen to music over my Sena headset from time to time. I want to get an exhaust for the storm, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the way the stock pipes sound as is. Overall, I'm enjoying the bike a lot and every so often something confirms that I made a great choice when purchasing my storm. Bang for buck, performance, looks, handling are all great and I know a lot of riders on other bikes are almost always surprised with what it can do. I guess it's got that kind of sleeper thing going on and I'm cool with that.
